The short version: this site earns money from affiliate links, it costs you nothing extra, and it has never changed where an app ranks.
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and sign up for a paid plan, the company may pay me a commission. You pay the same price you would have paid going there directly.
That's the only revenue source. There is no advertising, no sponsored content, and no paid listings.
It doesn't buy a place on the list. It doesn't buy a higher position. It doesn't buy a softer write-up or the removal of a criticism.
The ranking is decided before commercial terms are considered, on the four testing criteria set out on the about page. Apps that pay nothing appear on the list. Apps that would pay well appear below apps that pay less, where that's where they belong.
Two companies have offered payment in exchange for a listing or a position. Neither appears anywhere on this site.
Every subscription reviewed here was bought with my own money, at the normal public price, before the review was written. I don't accept free accounts, extended trials, review units or press access, because once you're using a version of the product other people can't buy, you're no longer reviewing the same thing they will get.
There's a disclosure at the top of any page containing affiliate links, above the first one, so you know before you click rather than after. Affiliate links also carry the appropriate rel attributes in the markup.
The statistics pages carry no affiliate links at all. They exist to be accurate and to be cited, and mixing commercial links into them would compromise both. Their sourcing rules are on the about page.
US Federal Trade Commission guidance requires affiliate relationships to be disclosed clearly and conspicuously, close to the recommendation rather than hidden in a footer. I'd rather over-disclose than have you find out later and wonder what else wasn't mentioned.
